This month we reached another milestone moment in the Cap Karoso adventure as work began on our farm. Right at the heart of our sustainable vision, it will produce all the organic crops required to fulfil the food production needs of the staff and guests.
The project is being led by the world famous Gentleman Farmer Philippe Guiglionda, who has over 20 years’ experience in organic agriculture. His famed south of France farm, Gorbiologique, supplies gastronomy’s best of the best: La Petite Maison in Nice, the Michelin starred Mirazur in Menton, and top chefs in Monaco.
Guiglionda is here in Sumba right now, breaking the ground at Cap Karoso and testing out varieties of delicious organic fruit and vegetables with a Mediterranean twist. It’s going to be a place of first class quality production: think tomatoes plucked fresh from the vines bringing rich flavour to the home-made tomato sauce in our Italian corner, plump aubergines, slices of juicy melon, and more? The 2-hectare farm will also be a perfect spot to hang out and chill in the shade of passion fruit and grape vines, take a stroll alongside the ducks and hens, and experience Mother Earth’s wisdom. And the farm’s central hub, designed with a nod to traditional Sumbanese architecture, will host a range of activities for guests and offer moments of sharing and learning: educational workshops offering hands on farm experiences, and classes in pottery, wood and stone carving, traditional weaving, painting, and cooking. Local artists in residence will also serve up some inspiration.
